We are loving Durango, Co!!! Spectacular scenery, beautiful town, friendly people, perfect weather.....what more could you ask for!
We rode the Narrow Gauge Railroad yesterday and what an experience! It's a 3 1/2 hr ride up and back with a 2 hour stop in Silverton, an old mining town. We decided to do the open air car so that we could experience the whole thing. It was amazing! We had been warned about the coal coming into the car (thanks Andrea) and so we were prepare with eyedrops and wore our sunglasses. We were amazed at how much soot was on our clothes and in our hair - well MY hair, since Ger doesn't have that much. :-) It felt good to take a shower later!!! But the scenery we saw was sooooo worth it! God's creation just never ceases to amaze us!
Today we decided to just relax and took a nice long walk along the river. It was fun watching all the rafters going down the river and everybody waving and laughing.
Tonite we found a fun saloon in an old Durango hotel. There was a piano player who could play anything. We especially loved hearing him play "The Sting". He stopped by to talk with us and we found out he's a retired lawyer who has been coming to Durango for 25 years to play the piano in this hotel. Now he's retired and so he comes here for 2 months to play. We have met some interesting and fun people on our trip so far.
We met someone at dinner tonite who recommended the hot springs not far from here. So we booked another nite and we're off to the hot springs tomorrow. :-) Key phrase for us.....Be flexible!!! Hope all is well with all of you and we sure would love to send some of this wonderful mountain air back there to all of you!

Strater Hotel for lodging
"Mutu" for Italian food
"Jean Pierre" for breakfast and lunch (this restaurant has so much charm and character)
"Diamond Belle Saloon" in the Strater Hotel for drinks, appetizers and great specials on dinners
