We arrived in Bend, OR yesterday afternoon to find it is their big Summer Fest weekend. Several bands playing in different locations. Lots of vendors and just lots of activity going on! What a great downtown with lots of shops, cute restaurants and a big park on the river. We got checked in to our hotel and headed downtown to explore.
We walked around town for a couple of hours, ate some sushi and took a walk along the river. Sat on a bench and watched a group of teenagers or college students playing Red Rover. When was the last time you saw kids playing Red Rover. It was fun watching them having such a great time together playing a game that's been around as long as I can remember! Even I played Red Rover when I was young!
After a good nights sleep we were off to explore their Old Mill area. Love this area! More shops and restaurants and the river running all along it. All of the restaurants had outdoor seating overlooking the river. Very cool. We rented bikes and rode all along the river watching people kayaking, canoeing, rafting and tubing down the river. Looked like a fun time! Beautiful, clean river. We are loving Bend!
Talked to a couple of college students who recommended we try one of the 8 local breweries in town. They gave us their fave and we headed out to try it out. Sat at the bar and ordered their sampler. Great way to try small samples of beer to see which one you liked well enough to order - or not. :-)
Just happened to sit next to the nicest couple who took us under their wings and took us to their favorite place to eat and then to another of their favorite breweries and introduced us to everybody they knew. Seemed like they knew everybody in Bend. It was a fun, full day! Did I mention, we LOVE Bend!
