Love those "wasn't that great" moments!

Our last nite in Newport, OR.  We spent this Sunday having a yummy breakfast at the restaurant next to our hotel.  We then sat down and listened to a sermon from what will probably be our new church in Lakewood Ranch.  Really like the pastor.  So that was a treat.

Spent the rest of the day doing internet research, reading and just basically doing nothing!  A true day of rest for us!  We ate a very late lunch and consequently didn't get hungry until about 9:00 tonite.  We headed out to see what we could find that was open in the little town of Newport.  Not much!  We were just about to give up when we saw a little Irish Pub on the corner.  We decided to give it a try.  We saw some seats at the bar and sat down.  Long story short, we met the most delightful couple, Craig and A J from Seattle.  Craig is originally from Scotland and so Gerry had a fun time talking golf and Scotland with him.  A J is originally from Tacoma, WA and they met at work in Seattle.  Craig and A J are a young couple who have had soooo many traveling experiences and it was just a treat to hear about all of their travels and their upcoming trips.  They have the travel bug like we do and have been to so many places at their young age!  We sat and talked with them for over 2 hours and the time just flew by!  Gerry was shocked when he looked at his watch after leaving the pub and it was midnite.  Yes, Gerry was up past midnite thanks to Craig and A J!  :-)  We walked out of the pub and said, "Wasn't that great!  So glad we stopped in there!"

I think one of the highlights of our trip has been some of the people we have met.   There was the couple from Chapel Hill in Taos who were there celebrating the grant she had just completed.  She is a pediatrician who works at a hospital in Cincinnati which is one of the best in the country.  Then there was Jeff from Chapel Hill who we met in Jackson.  He had just dropped off his 2 teenagers at a 2 week camp there.  His wife was joining him the next day and they were going to spend their 20th anniversary touring WY and Montana for 2 weeks.  Gerry had a great time talking Tar Heels b'ball with him!  He was also a golfer and had played golf a few times with Roy Williams.  He was such a nice young man and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him!   We consider these times real gifts from God!

Tomorrow we're to Bandon, OR and Gerry's all set to play Bandon Dunes on the 5th and the Pacific Course on the 6th.  He'll have lots to blog about after those 2 days!  :-)

Happy 4th of July to all of our family and friends!!!
