For Golfers Only

Those who don't like golf will be bored by this blog entry (there, that's my disclaimer)

Played one of the more outstanding golf courses in the US today--Bandon Dunes.  So many times, all the advance publicity about something is all too often overblown.  Bandon Dunes did not disappoint!  From the moment I arrive at the course, the service was truly outstanding.  The golf course is located right on the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean so you can imagine the views are breathtaking.  The course is designed to be just like the links courses in Scotland.  The designer achieved his objective.  I was constantly reminded of when I played golf at St. Andrews' Old Course, Kings Barns, or any of the others we played in Scotland a couple of years ago.  I was also reminded of Scotland because of the weather... there is constant wind of about 20-30 knots and the temperature is in the mid 60's.  No shorts out here!

Had a very good caddy (by the name of Robo)  who could read the greens well; unfortunately he kept over clubbing me and my shots would either be over the green or on the back edge.  He'll be on the bag tomorrow but I've decided I'm going to take a more proactive stance about my club selection.

As far as scoring is concerned, I shot about 6 over my normal handicap. I didn't feel badly about that since I hadn't played in 2 weeks, hadn't played to this course, and my shot selection wasn't the best.  Hit the ball generally pretty well, so can't complain.

Tomorrow I play Pacific Dunes, which is rated the second best public golf course in America (Bandon Dunes is in the top 15).

While it's expensive, am totally pleased that I've had the opportunity to play here at Bandon Dunes.
