After our wonderful time in Charlotte seeing Heather, Allie and Megan, and all of our friends, we were ready to get back on the road again.
We landed in Denver on a beautiful day and then headed out to Frisco where we had decided to spend the nite. We love Frisco. What a cute little town right at the foot of the mountains and right off the freeway to give us a quick start for Aspen the next morning. We found a nice little Italian restaurant for dinner. And after a good nites sleep we were ready for our drive to Aspen.
Have any of you ever seen the aspen's in the fall? We have been many beautiful places in the fall. I mean, can it get any more beautiful than New England in the fall? Well, we do love seeing the hardwoods in the fall with their reds, oranges and golds. So I just couldn't imagine getting excited about the aspens. Well, it was spectacular! Just beautiful seeing these bright yellow/gold leaves amid the dark green pines. We met someone who said she hasn't seen the aspens this pretty in years. Thank you, God, for allowing us to see them this fall. : )
The drive to Aspen was amazing! We were told to take Independence Pass and it was sooooo beautiful. It was right up there as one of the prettiest routes on our trip! We had forgotten how much we love Colorado and how beautiful it is!
We arrived in Aspen and got ourselves settled into our hotel and then headed off on foot to explore. What a pretty town! At first we were ready to call it our favorite town in Colorado. We have to admit, however, that after spending a couple of days there, Breckenridge gets our vote for prettiest and friendliest mountain town. We just felt more at home there. Aspen has lots more shopping, but they do cater to the wealthy. Dining out is very expensive in Aspen. But we had a great time exploring the area and we LOVED Maroon Belles. Oh my gosh, it was like walking into a painting!!! There were photographers everywhere. They say it is the most photographed place in Colorado. It was just fun standing there and watching how the scene changed with the sun going behind a cloud and then bursting back out and seeing the aspen just glow in the sunlight. Breathtaking!
I will never again question the beauty of an aspen in the fall.....only God can make a tree and He sure knows what He's doing!!!
